TRAVEL SPANISH                $90

 

This class is for those people traveling to Mexico and interested in learning useful words and phrases. Emphasis on speaking and building vocabulary, while reinforcing the basic principles of grammar.  The class will also provide a general  understanding of the culture.

MEDICAL SPANISH                                                          $90

Learn basic medical vocabulary and phrases for healthcare   workers.  No prior Spanish experience necessary.

CONVERSATIONAL FRENCH                                     $90   

 

This class is suited for speakers who have an intermediate knowledge of the French language and wish to practice their speaking skills.  Great way to meet other people who share a passion for French.

BEGINNING JAPANESE ______________________ $125

This is an introductory class and is for individuals with very little or no experience with the Japanese language.  The class will cover basic greetings, how to introduce yourself and basic vocabulary to ask and answer questions.  Handouts will be   provided. Based on interest we will also learn how to read some simple characters and the simplified Hiragana (Japanese alphabet). This will be a fun class with time to discuss the culture and cultural differences.

ENRICHMENT CLASSES

 

COMPUTER DIAGNOSIS                                                    $35

Learn the basics of how to evaluate common computer and network problems and repair these problems yourself.  A step by step program teaches you how to diagnose the problem and the easiest, quickest way to repair the issue.  A mid-level knowledge of computers is recommended for this class.

CONTEMPORARY MEXICO                                           $20

Join Jim Fitzgerald, former FLC  Sociology professor in a 4 week bilingual (English / Spanish) discussion group about contemporary political and social issues in Mexico.  There will be an emphasis on food and agriculture as it affects the country and its people.  Students are welcome regardless of their language level in English or Spanish.

GARBAGE, WORMS AND GOLD                                    $30

Learn how to turn kitchen waste into gardening gold.  Participate in this hands-on vermicomposting class and learn the many benefits of indoor composting with worms.  At the end of the workshop you will have the knowledge necessary to construct and maintain your own worm composting system at home.   Information includes container set-up, bedding material, feedstock do’s and don’ts, moisture, maintenance, harvesting and use of worm castings.  Also, discover why many gardeners refer to worm castings as worth their weight in gold.

INTRO TO BASIC HOME REPAIR                      $25 

Are you tired of feeling helpless when something goes wrong in your house?  Join us in this introductory class that will help you get started on your empowering path to home repair independence.  The class will cover what to include in your home tool box, the 3 most common   emergencies and shut off valves, basic plumbing and   electrical problems, and when to call a professional.

HANDS-ON HOME REPAIR                                 $25

This class will teach you how to fix a dripping faucet,  simple drywall repair, address doors and windows that won’t close properly and address other minor repair issues with time permitting.  Tools will not be required for this class.

FLY TYING                                                                $50 

Learn fly tying for the SW Colorado rivers and lakes.  Learn to tie 4 of the most successful flies in the area to catch trout.  These flies are “local guides choice” and have been proven  to consistently catch fish year after year.  This class is best suited for those who already know the basics of fly tying.  Students need to bring their vise and basic tools (scissors & bobbin).  Materials will be provided.

SPRING GARDENING FROM SEEDS                 $15

Join the experts from Native Roots to get an early start on your spring gardening.  Learn how to start your garden from seeds.  The class will cover the optimal growing  conditions and techniques necessary to turn your seedlings into a flourishing garden.

Get hands-on practice on how to take beautiful pictures on your digital camera. The class will cover:  how to take photos, how to use your camera, how to edit and manipulate your photos, email and print. Will also cover memory usage, resolution, file management and shopping for a digital camera.

Learn why fly fishing is a great form of meditative exercise and highly addictive.  Get your feet wet by joining professional fly fishing guide Steve Linn in this four hour introductory class.  The class will cover:  equipment overview, knot tying, how to read a river, casting, and how to safely release fish.

Computer Classes
We are continually offering classes for those interested in everything from learning basic computer skills, Microsoft Word or Excel, Digital Camera or Internet and e-mail use.

Core Classes

GED
The GED (General Educational Development) test is a nationally recognized certificate that is awarded in
Colorado as a High School Equivalency.

ABE
Adult Basic Education provides assistance to adults needing improvement in basic skills such as math, writing, reading, or workplace skills.

ESOL
We offer English as a second language, Monday through Thursday, day and evening for adults who need to learn English.  We can help novice to advanced English speakers.

Reading
Specialized reading classes are available in the morning using Lindamood-Bell multi-sensory methods.

Parent Coaching
Patsy Ey uses the Parents as Teachers curriculum to coach young parents.

Second Languages
Spanish
We offer five levels from Beginning to Advanced Spanish classes.
Russian
We offer Beginning and Intermediate level courses in Russian.
French
